Day 1 Linnet Clough A Day of Transition
22:00hrs-Bed time for most; but not for the workers. They are working away using muscles they probably didn’t realise they had. Forging friendships that will last a lifetime but more importantly discovering who they really are as a person. It is at this time that the penny has dropped. Most students have realised that they will have to rely on each other to get through the two and half days here. Leadership starts with making sure your team can succeed. By everyone ensuring that their team is succeeding each member is being a leader. It wasn’t always this way...
11.00hrs- Its hard to imagine what its like turning your back on civilisation, the comfort of your own home, the warmth it provides. The half mile trek to the camp site quickly brought about the stark realisation that the hope of an easy ride in any sense of the word had now gone with the coach.
12.00hrs-A testing mix of PT, drill and kit checks all necessary to instil discipline and teamwork. A challenge to be met by each individual by further supporting their fellow peers-The uptake was slow and reflected the change of pace from normal life to public services life.
15.00hrs-Leadership, Navigation and Communication Tutorials. Students received vital input from specialist subject tutors in regards to the above subjects. Practical and theoretical elements enabled a variety of important issues to be covered which will prove vital during exercises to be held on the next day.
