Tracy Clements Never be Afraid to be Afraid

Having just packed my bag for a week long adventure to Linnet Clough, and as I lay soaking in the bath savouring every minute knowing it will be a while before my next chance to relax, I spare a thought for those students going to Linnet tomorrow.

How must they feel? I know where I am sleeping, what I will be doing, what to wear and what I shall eat, yet I still feel a little nervous...have I packed enough? Have I got everything?

I know I have a brilliant team around me if I do neglect to take something and that means a lot, yet it is still there. Little butterflies, nerves that make you “get your act together”. How must students feel???

We as tutors must never forget or underestimate how they might feel, some having never been away from home before. I don’t have to “pass Linnet Clough”, do P.T or challenge myself on the obstacle course. No – I have already done that and I remember very well how it feels. I just have to help bring the best out in my students and be there to catch them when they fall. (Mentally, physically and spiritually). That’s my job and I’m proud to do it.

So to all you students reading this I want to say “never be afraid of feeling afraid”. Fear of the unknown is scary but you should only be afraid of never having the chance to try something new and challenge yourself.

Be the best you can and enjoy!

Tracy.
