Post 1 : Day 1 : BTEC First Diploma

Day 1 Linnet Clough A Day of Transition

22:00hrs-Bed time for most; but not for the workers. They are working away using muscles they probably didn’t realise they had. Forging friendships that will last a lifetime but more importantly discovering who they really are as a person. It is at this time that the penny has dropped. Most students have realised that they will have to rely on each other to get through the two and half days here. Leadership starts with making sure your team can succeed. By everyone ensuring that their team is succeeding each member is being a leader. It wasn’t always this way...
11.00hrs- Its hard to imagine what its like turning your back on civilisation, the comfort of your own home, the warmth it provides. The half mile trek to the camp site quickly brought about the stark realisation that the hope of an easy ride in any sense of the word had now gone with the coach.

12.00hrs-A testing mix of PT, drill and kit checks all necessary to instil discipline and teamwork. A challenge to be met by each individual by further supporting their fellow peers-The uptake was slow and reflected the change of pace from normal life to public services life.

15.00hrs-Leadership, Navigation and Communication Tutorials. Students received vital input from specialist subject tutors in regards to the above subjects. Practical and theoretical elements enabled a variety of important issues to be covered which will prove vital during exercises to be held on the next day.

Its good to be back :)

As i got off the bus, and walked down the 1 mile stretch, all the memories of last year came rushing back...

Sat here feeling worn out and acheing like mad, i can definatley say i am glad that i took this opportunity to be a member of the staff.

Last week i wouldnt of been able to stand in front of a group of students and give instructions in various activities. But now i have a lot more confidence and knowledge in what i am doing.

Thats all thanks to the tutors and my team members for pushing me and helping me along.

I would definatley advise any student who thinks they have got what it takes to be a member of staff next year, to just GO FOR IT!

Looking forward to another week of hard work, acheing and most of all having a good time with everyone.

Round two of Linnet Clough...

So far so good. We've had our fallouts and the tears have fallen, but we pulled through as a team and all became stronger because of it.
I'm so glad that I took the opportunity that the staff gave me, because I've learnt so much about myself and others.
Linnet Clough has been such an eye opener as to what being in a service would be like and makes me want to suceed in the career that I choose, even more.
If anyone is wanting to come back as staff next year, then I would highly recommend doing it. Not only does it give you an insight, it is also a massive achievment and something to be proud of.
